About me
Welcome to the About Me section of my website. Let me introduce myself again– I’m Amy Wright and I am a full-time 6-8 educator in New Jersey. My goal is to climb up the educational ladder while I write in my free time. I have many certifications inside and outside of teaching. Some of my certifications include RYT-200, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor training, as well as my MFA in Creative Writing.
In December of 2021, I completed my Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing through the low-residency program at Carlow University. My defense committee included Karin Lin-Greenberg, Geeta Kothari, and Gerry LaFemina. I studied under Karin Lin-Greenberg, Geeta Kothari, and Evelyn Conlon during my time in the program. My creative manuscript was a collection of linked short stories that followed a New Jersey family through turmoil and back.
My favorite genre of writing is Adult Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Dystopia. I am currently working on a collection of short fantasy. As I complete my stories, I am also sending them out to anthologies, both big and small. My biggest inspiration is Neil Gaiman; his work ignited my love for writing again after going through a period of writer’s block. Namely, Gaiman’s Stardust is one of my all-time favorite fantasy books I’ve read to date.
Outside of writing, I am a full-time teacher and will be receiving my Master’s in Educational Leadership in 2024 through Montclair State University. My goal is to climb the ladder of administration to use my leadership skills actively. While teaching, I have piloted the Creative Writing program at my current district. I also facilitate the Student-Led Newspaper Club. I have a great rapport with both students and staff and hope to do many more great things in my time in education.
Fitness has always been an outlet for me to relieve my stress. I was certified to teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu through Spartan Mixed Martial Arts where I currently have my blue belt. Through Tula Yoga, I received my Yoga Teaching Certification through the RYT-200 program and am YogaAlliance certified. These outlets have allowed me to express myself in a number of ways and have helped my mental health greatly.
Finally, I am an avid animal lover and have always dreamed of owning an animal sanctuary. Currently, I have a cat named Cat Stevens who I adopted through Catsbury Park in 2019. I hope to adopt more furry friends through the years and give them second chances at life. When I’m not reading, writing, teaching, or working out, I am cuddled up on my sofa with my handsome Cat Stevens– likely watching reruns of Friends, The Office, New Girl, or Parks and Recreation.
